Farming and Big Data
TO OUR VALUED CUSTOMERS AND FRIENDS:
Welcome to the wheat harvest edition of our Flyer. It’s hard to believe it is that time already! For those of you that have already completed your harvest, I hope it was a good one. For those of you currently harvesting or about to begin, we wish you good luck. As harvest begins at each location, we extend our Parts and Service Department hours to accommodate your needs, so don’t hesitate to call when you need us….24/7.
I want to start this letter off by recognizing Mary Eisenzimmer in our Marketing Department who has been responsible for the publication of this Flyer for the last dozen years. Over this time, she has evolved this publication from a two-page black and white tab to what you have in your hands today. I am pleased to say that Mary has accepted a position in our Company’s Sales Department, but I do want to recognize her for her accomplishments in publishing this Flyer every other month for what seems like a long, long time. And, don’t worry….the publication of this Flyer will definitely continue.
Some of you have asked me why we send out so many of those darn customer surveys and what do we do with them? I can tell you we take your feedback on these surveys very seriously. I can tell you that I personally read every survey that is returned and I am very interested in your responses. So please take a few minutes to complete a survey if you receive one. In the long-run, it will help improve our customer service to you…. in all departments at all locations.
Soil moisture management continues to be a top priority for almost any farming operation in the high plains of eastern Colorado and western Nebraska. To this end, we have deployed a record number of Field Connect™ installations, which is our John Deere soil moisture probe. Soil moisture data is available to producers and their trusted advisors 24/7, via the highly-secure MyJohnDeere.com web portal. Demo’s are readily available from any of our Integrated Solutions Specialists if you want to learn more about this inexpensive way to save precious irrigation water, give them a call.
This spring, we have installed another 300+ acres of Subsurface Drip Irrigation (SDI) for several customers, primarily in western Nebraska and have a demonstration site just east of Mitchell, NE that we would really like to show you. This irrigation technique is growing in popularity and is a way to stretch irrigation water further and actually improve the agronomic benefits that are inherent to the system. Watch for an announcement in the coming weeks regarding a SDI Field Day to get a “hands-on” look at several installations in the Scottsbluff area and see the crops they are producing.
This will be our last Flyer before the start of this year’s county fairs. As such, we want to wish all of our 4H and FFA exhibitors the best of luck in your various projects. I also want to thank all of you that support 4H and FFA as sponsors, advisors and leaders. These two organizations are as strong as ever and they remain an important family tradition in the rural life-style we all enjoy.
In closing, I wish all of our wheat growers a bountiful harvest……and the same for our hay and forage producers. As we move into the busiest part of the season, please keep the safety of yourself, and others, in mind.
As always, I sincerely THANK YOU for your business! We know you have a choice and we thank you for choosing 21st Century Equipment.
